New Year, New Emily

err, so I kinda failed in my mission to watch it on New Year's Day

I could make this lots better, but I'm not, BUT if one didn't have tv, and only had a computer with NO SOUND, this rambling recap from the day after, might just do the trick!

Emily Owens and...The Car and the Cards *Ep 108*

the recap-preview that sets up the episode *Will saying he doesn't see Emily 'in that way', then him obviously seeing her that way*, then everyone looking at a possible medical miracle, a 17-yr old who from what i can gather, has something in her that is holding all her organs in place.

Next, Emily has a legendary flashcard system she used for the SATs.  *like her outfit* She's now using them for the in-service? exam. *What does that refer to?*

*Herm, does the butterflies amidst the bones when they show the show title, refer to life?*

a model who's excited cuz she thinks her bf's going to propose *lol @ emily's reaction which is basically all facial movements until she suddenly exclaims, "Yay!"

and then enter Cassandra's "flashcard" system, a phone app.  Now Will has to decide whose 'cards' he should use.  Looks like Cassandra is using the 'girlfriend' card and Will is taking it.

Boy and a girl arrive in two separate ambulances...apparently the boy has been busted for drugs and supposedly they weren't supposed to be together and they swerved to avoid a car, resulting in the car accident.  The girl was what the "medical miracle" was referring to; she has a piece of pointed metal going in and out of her body.

Allison McLeary (sp)? is her name.  Will seems to want to avoid talking to the parents.  The pointed metal is a picket.
Will seems to be pretty judgmental of the boy, Ory (sp)?  Ory said it was foggy and he had his low beams on and he's not high.

Allison can't even laugh, for fear she might inflict further damage upon herself.  As they are putting her through the machine to see internally what is the damage, Emily notices that the picket won't fit, so the room becomes a construction zone as maintenance gets to work *I can't come up with the word right now *

Looks like Allison's going through surgery, and they're working in teams...the picket has even hit the aorta. Emily isn't supposed to tell Allison the result of Ory's drug tests, but no he wasn't high.

Unfortunately, for the model, what seemed to be a toothache, is cancer, which will necessitate taking out part of her jaw.  As she states, she has "cancer...in her face"

Ory's nose is bleeding.  He says it "happens sometimes," and thus proceeds to faint on top of Emily.  *I wonder if the tech running Ory through the machine is listening to music*  Emily gets back to studying while she awaits the results and proclaims, "Tests are my happy place."  Lucky coincidences?  Radiology for Ory looks normal, but then looking at his feet, it seems Ory's aorta may have been torn by the accident.

The model wants to get discharged and try alternative Eastern medicine from a sharma (sp)? even though Emily tells her the cancer is aggressive.  Emily asks for advice from Micah, and the ever sage Micah responds, "Stop judging her before trying to figure out where she's coming from." so Emily relates to her in that she'd feel the same way if she couldn't be the doctor.  The model comes back with "what if you were told you couldn't be smart?"  She continues..."I've always been the pretty girl."  Who would she be if not?

and Oh no!  Emily can't find her flashcards, accuses Cassandra, who points out that she has Dr. Portofino's lab coat and Dr. Portofino won't be out for hours from where she is at.  After Tyra questions Emily, Emily mentions there is more to freak out about, because studying is how Will and Emily got together.  Will wanted to study with Emily, and if Emily's not the "smart friend," who is she to Will?  Ding dong.  Ring a bell?

Meanwhile, Allison made it through the surgery, but she may be paralyzed. Will's personal vendetta against Ory seems to come to a halt, when he finds Ory, who was missing, and Ory wants to say now, it was his fault, and he has to let Allison know he's sorry.  Allison reveals it wasn't a car, but a motorcycle, that was heading towards them.  Apparently, Ory is suffering from diplopia/double vision, which could cover nosebleeds, the white legs and now has resulted in lupus.  Looks like it played a part in the accident.

Allison reveals to her parents it was her weed they caught Ory with, and he took the blame.  It turns out Allison has feeling in her feet and the model is not "ready for everything to change," so she is opting for alternative medicine first.

Will was in a car accident in high school in which he was at the wheel and his gf died, so he blames himself.

part of ending quote as emily gets ready to take the exam "...you reshape around the pain, but you're never the same.  but maybe that's okay. but things shift. maybe they needed to shift. because we can get stuck in one spot as one thing, one identity. but we're not one thing. we're never one thing, not to ourselves, not to each other and you're the only intern not writing!" LOL. out loud: "remember this is your super bowl"
