Emily and...the love of LARPing?

What is larping?  Looks like we'll find out.

The recap starts off with a shirtless Justin Hartley and the preview seems to foreshadow the Emily-Will-Micah triangle, but as I progress further throughout the episode, I feel like it's chock-full of stuff.

The actual episode starts with what I thought was Emily upside down, and she is in a way, in downward dog position in a yoga class.  She describes her current life situation as being in "another rut."  Emily tells Tyra she thinks she needs a short haircut.  Tyra thinks she needs to get laid, and asks if Emily's ever had a one-night stand. Surprisingly, to me at least, she has, and it turned into an "18-month disaster."  Neither Tyra nor Emily seem keen to spill the details, but *I want to know!!*  Anyways, it's been awhile since Emily's had sex, and she laughs as she scoffs, "just walk into a bar and seduce someone."  Cassandra hears Emily and says the fact that she needs to get laid, is "tattooed right on her forehead."

Flash to what can probably be described as a modern-day problem for a lot of people: A lady who's just had a heart attack, but is obviously a workaholic or a lady with a busy life, who doesn't seem to want to rest.  While Dr. Bandari and the other interns are around, she picks up her cell phone more than once, and silences Dr. Bandari, putting her finger in front of Dr. Bandari's face.  In retaliation, when asked what are the next steps, and to "try to hurry up," Dr. Bandari tells Emily to take her time.  The result is quite comical, as Emily;s face is quite expressive as she does the whole drawn out speech, relaying what needs to be done to the patient.  

Dr. Bandari, who usually doesn't find patients problematic and maintains a pretty even keel, finds this patient "obnoxious," but I don't think she was as that bad in comparison to Dr. Bandari's reaction.  Emily is close to bursting out in laughter, but lucky for her, she doesn't, via using the thinking of the "dead puppy" trick.

*I don't think I've ever used that trick, but it seems widespread on TV shows I've watched or fanfiction I've read.*

Shots of Emily, Will and Cassandra in the patient's room and after show definite Cassandra jealousy and more Will warming up to Emily.  Cassandra takes Will away and says she'll help Emily with that "thing," as Tyra explains to a clueless Emily, "getting laid."

Cassandra tells Will she is thinking of setting up Emily with a teacher who toured the hospital last week, Scott, who ended up facebooking Cassandra.  On a side note, apparently, Cassandra said she and Will were exclusive, but Will had never admitted it and wasn't quite keen on saying so yet.  Will says Emily would "never go on a blind date."

And in the next scene, look what we have here!  As the scene goes on, bedside to the patient and her daughter are Micah, Emily and Kelly, a triangle in Emily's love triangle, which she doesn't know about.  The mom had a stomachache which turned out to be ovarian cancer.  The mom asks about hair loss, because as she states, "good wigs take time," and seems to be taking the news a lot better than her upset daughter.  As MEK leaves, the patient stops Emily and says she has "beautiful hair," but needs "mascara," which will make her eyes "pop."  Emily is keen on the patient's next words, which are that it'll "change her life."

Micah dismisses Emily to help because the ER needs help.  Micah tells Kelly about his planned weekend ski getaway.  I like Kelly's confidence.

When Emily gets to the ER, it looks like Will has been sent to help.  As Emily leaves, the guy says, "No, once you're down here, you're down here.  I'm not gonna complain about extra hands."  He warns Emily and Will that their next patient is a "live one," and the patient does stand out, like a real-life avatar, in costume, with his skin bronzed.  The man, who hurt his arm, talks of an Elvish Nation, and refers to his persona as his soul identity. Will and Emily differ in their perceptions of him, in fact, Emily's greater acceptance of him, leads Will to acknowledge it to the mysterious one-night stand Emily had before, aka "weird Kevin."  Suddenly they hear a crash, and it turns out, the man is suddenly blind.

Diana, the aforementioned workaholic, lets the staff now she is planning to go to New York, where they have "better" or the "best" doctors.

Emily, while walking with Tyra, and then meeting up with Cassandra, draws a parallel between Diana and Dr. Bandari.  We then find out, Cassandra also wants to rise to the top, and doesn't want kids, unlike Emily.  Cassandra mentions Scott to Emily, and like Will predicted, Emily replies that she's "not the blind-date type."

Meanwhile, we go back to the Parks family.  Micah gives good news, but the mom is more concerned with "putting her face on" and wants her lipstick.  Her daughter says she left it at home, and in frustration, the daughter walks out.  The mom then has a heart attack and passes, leaving Micah understandably shook up and affected.

We go back to Elf Man, who is with a psychiatrist having a consult, since Will is convinced he suffers from "conversion disorder."  We find, however, that the man, named Tom Mendleson is a LARPer, aka live action role player, aha!  So he isn't crazy, but still blind.  His first lieutenant Astral, who is there, thankfully mentions that he was limping and that's how he fell.  Emily goes to feel his right leg and it turns out that he has, edema, otherwise known as fluid that has accumulated.

Diana collapses from a heart attack before leaving...Micah finds out that he is being sued by Mrs. Park's daughter for medical malpractice, because if she was at high risk for cardiac arrest, Micah shouldn't have operated.

Diana now realizes that life's too short, and says she and her husband had always planned to go to Tuscany.  She says to him, they should just "pick up and go."

Tom, who is now in a hyperbaric chamber, tells Emily, she must think he's "strange," but she responds, "who am i to judge?"  Well said, Emily."  Tom sheds light on the reason for his LARPing by telling Emily he's a number cruncher in "real life" and often overlooked.  Suddenly though, he has trouble breathing, and Emily says the clot has spread to his to lungs.  Tom expresses a fondness for Astral, and abdicates his kingdom
to her.

It seems that Dr. Bendari is suddenly nice and seems to understand Emily understanding Tom, but then replies that Emily should come to work tomorrow "dressed like an elf."  The team ends up having to cut Tom  open, resulting in another close call, as his heart stops, but then rumbles back to life.

Astrak thanks Emily, saying "you never judged," and says when you wear a costume, "you feel different." Tyra helps Emily choose her outfit for the blind date, which she goes on, because Will called Emily "predictable" for not going earlier.  Emily looks stunning in what looks to be *I'm not good with fashion* a brown leather dress with black jacket and white cuffs.

Emily tries to act sexy, but stumbles.  She then proceeds to call it a sexy stumble.  While Scott and Cassandra go to get a beer and shot, respectively, Will tells Emily he didn't mean "predictable" as a negative trait, and Emily responds, "Oh, of course not, it's a hot, sexy trait...look, see that girl over there, I've got dibs, she's predictable," to which Will responded, "we don't call dibs."  *I thought guys do.*  When Cassandra comes back with the shots, Will makes a cheer  "to luck."  Why luck???

I forgot from the previews, but sadly, Diana's husband is planning to divorce her as soon as she's well enough to take the news.  Sad right?

Micah sees Mrs. Parks daughter, and tells her "these things happen," but she says they don't.  As she leaves, she drops her purse, and realizes she had her mom's lipstick all along.  She leaves successfully this time, as she tells Micah "I shouldn't be talking to you."

Back in the bar, Will is telling Cassandra, he's not sure  Scott is the right guy for Emily.  Cassandra replies by saying, "she's having a good time."  Will says Emily's drunk.  In response to Cassandra's accusations that Will seems jealous, he says he's not, just protective as a friend.

Meanwhile, on the dance floor, Emily looks into Scott's beautiful eyes, and exclaims,  "I'm going to kiss yu eyes," LOL.  Of course, though, Scott who kisses back, is allergic to the peanuts Emily was snacking on earlier, didn't bring his epi-pen, and winds up ironically, in the hospital.  There, he asks Emily if she wants to hook-up, but she replies they're "better off as friends."  Scott then backtracks and says they wouldn't "make good friends...don't really have that much in common."  They seemed to jive on snowboarding with me.  

Now the surprised nurses come out of the woodworks to start giving compliments to Emily based on her dressed-up appearance, okay, a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the picture.  An exasperated Emily final exclaims that she gets it, "Usually I dont!" look this nice.  She then turns around and bumps into a handsomely smiling Micah.  She tells him she's been thinking of him and his mom, if that means anything, and he says it does.  He tells her that he's being sued but also relays how he sued the people who make ??? in relation to his mom, so Emily puts things into perspective for Micah.  She expresses that it's been annoying not talking to him like this and that she missed Micah.

We then find out from Kelly that legal has dropped the lawsuit against him.  Micah has less happy news for her as he breaks up with her because he's not "with her."  Kelly is understandably surprised and disappointed :(.   

Switching back to Emily, with Will know, they seem to be wearing similar colors.  Emily picks up that he's jealous as he asks about Scott.  Emily's voice then moves off the screen as she ponders, "You can't force your way out of a rut...Change comes when it comes, sometimes a result of careful planning, other times, when you least expect it...and you're never prepared, for the moment when suddenly, everything changes.  You can't be," but I think you can, at least some of the time, point in case, Dr. Bandari.  The second to last scene of the show is her coming home to her husband in bed, who she couldn't even make dinner plans with. She says they should "take a vacation," and her husband responds, "yeah, right."  I thought she was genuine, and I thought it was going to happen, until Dr. Bandari's husband's expression changed :(.

The last scene is the best, when we come full circle, and Tyra asks Emily if she got "laid," and Emily replies by saying, "emotionally laid." ;) That's my Emily!
